The Yazoo County Panthers needed just three innings to dispatch of the Thomas Edwards Tigers 15-0 Monday night.
The win upped the Panthers record to 10-8 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Yazoo County will secure the district title with a win Thursday over Amanda Elzy.
The Panthers are rounding into form just as the post season approaches, which makes head coach Corbin Ellis a happy camper.
“As always I am very proud of the way my kids bounce back from adversity. We have been talking about accountability all season and not letting little things get in the way of success,” said Ellis.
“I am really proud of how my guys have responded this season and are on the verge of clinching the district title. We started playing more consistently around Spring Break and then had a couple of error-filled games vs. Manchester. But we immediately bounced back and beat Humphreys County, 14-3. We’re looking to finish the last couple of weeks strong and prepare for the playoffs.”
Against Thomas Edwards, the Panthers posted three runs in the first inning, five in the second and seven in the decisive third.
They totaled 15 runs on 13 hits led by a host of Panthers. Gabe Shaffer, Josh Snow, Clark Riley, Will Andrews, Broc Willingham all had two hits to lead the way at the plate.
