Last week, I attended a baseball game for the first time since March.
Although I didn’t know many people at the game, we all seemed to be excited and friendly. The competition was great, and there was some real talent on both teams.
There were players who had signed with LSU, Southern Mississippi, and players who were already on the Mississippi State and Ole Miss rosters. Delta State University was well represented, and all of the players did well. The pitching was awesome, and by the end of the game, there had been only five hits. I left Copiah-Lincoln Community College wanting more.
We have been playing baseball in this country for well over a hundred years, and with the exception of a few changes here and there, the game has remained the same. I watched the replays of a World Series game that featured the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers, and with the exception that the game was filmed in black and white, everything seemed the same. Nothing had changed. Mickey Mantle hit a towering home run, and believe it or not, I was listening to the game on radio when he performed this feat.
Although baseball has changed very little over the years, the United States has, and this year it seems that everything is changing at breakneck speed. COVID-19 shut everything down. The economy bottomed out and millions of Americans lost their jobs. But I do not blame President Trump for this fiasco. I blame Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx!
They went to the President with dubious numbers, told him that 2.2 million were going to die in the United States, and we had to “mitigate” the spread of the virus in order to ensure that the hospitals were not over run. These are so-called experts in the field of epidemiology so it was almost impossible to ignore their advice even though the President’s instincts were telling him that shutting the nation down economically was not the right thing to do. Fauci and Birx are high ranking bureaucrats. Fauci has not laid his hands on a patient in years, yet he was liberal with his flawed know-it-all advice.
Then we had the case of George Floyd which sent the people into the streets. Soon the protests turned, and the real instigators stepped forward. They engineered a take over of several city blocks in Seattle, Washington, and began demanding that their voices be heard. One woman finally admitted that, “This country is so flawed that it must be torn down and rebuilt from its very foundation.”
These are the socialists and anarchist who want to change this country into something it was never intended to be. This same group admitted that since the country was founded on flawed principles that it “was OK to take whatever you wanted.”
The Seattle mayor is incompetent and unable to make a decision. I have spent some time in Seattle, and it is a beautiful city. However, if these socialists and anarchists are allowed to control several city blocks and call it a new nation, then something is wrong. The mayor needs to step up to the plate and stop this nonsense. Rebellion against the United States should not be allowed. We have a constitution that allows people more freedom than anywhere else in the world. Yes, we have some problems, but these are things that can be worked out peacefully without taking up arms against this country or burning the country down.
Another disturbing change is the NFL’s decision to allow players to kneel during the playing of the National Anthem. I wonder how this is going to go over with the American public? Seeing a group of millionaires disrespecting the flag may not be something that the general public wants to see. We will just have to see how this works out. But President Trump has already said that if this occurs, he will not watch the games. I’ve got a feeling that he is not going to be alone.
