Vernon Ray Martin, 87, a native of Bentonia and resident of Yazoo City, went to be with Lord January 2, 2018.
Visitation will be at Stricklin King Funeral home in Yazoo City on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 6, 2018 at noon with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until funeral time. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City.
Vernon is survived by his children Cheryl Hanna and husband Randy; Stephen Martin and wife Linda; grandchildren – Jason Hanna, Joshua Hanna, Amanda Dickerson (Brandon) and Austin Hanna, Justin Martin (Amanda) and Stevi Martin. He was blessed with 5 great-grandchildren – Georgia Ray Hanna, Lily Hanna, Nolan Dickerson, Philip Martin and Alexandria LeBouef; and many nieces and nephews.
Vernon was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 62 years Luzelle Marquis Martin; and his siblings Marion Ogden Martin, Thomas Wiley Martin, and Vadene Hilderbrand, and James Abb Martin; and his parents Wiley and Minnie Sadler Martin.
Vernon was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a retired oilfield mechanic and pumper. He was devoted to his God and family. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, gardening, and driving his John Deer tractor. He will be greatly missed by many.
