Mary Elizabeth Smith, lifelong resident of Bentonia, MS, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, in Yazoo City. She is survived by her sister, Elaine Glisson (Clyde) of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and many adoring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mattie Smith, brothers, Robert Edward Smith and John D. “Buddy” Smith, and her sister, Mildred Ann Myers.
Mary Elizabeth, known as “Sister” to her family and many of her friends, was beloved by too many to count. She had a delightful sense of humor and loved to tell funny stories. She filled family gatherings and homes with laughter and smiles. She played the role of doting sister and aunt, enduring with patience and good humor the practical jokes of her siblings, nieces, and nephews, and indeed, conjuring some mischief of her own.
She was a professional seamstress, well-known by her patrons for her diligent attention to detail and the quality of her work. The demand for her services kept her busy, but never too busy for some “pro bono” altering and mending for her family.
A graveside service conducted by Bro. Ken Lynch will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, MS, at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 21.
Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, Ronnie Glisson, Bobby Myers, Allan Smith, Mike Smith, Robert Smith, and Shane Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Friends of Children’s Hospital (www.foch.org/give) or another worthy charity. Funeral arrangements were provided by Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
