Linda J. McElveen, 70, of Satartia (formerly of Jacksonville, Fla.) entered eternal peace at home surrounded by family on August 21, 2016, after a nine-month battle with breast cancer.
Born March 18, 1946, to the late Gus and Hattie Hanks, Linda grew up in Satartia. She attended Hinds Vocational College obtaining her Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate on January 19, 1979. Linda loved being a nurse and did so for 37 years. She began her nursing career in 1979 at King’s Daughter Hospital in Yazoo City, MS. The majority of her nursing career was serving in hospitals, doctor offices, and nursing homes in Jacksonville, FL where she resided for 35 yrs.
Linda is survived by her husband, Jim McElveen, daughters Sheila Jackson (Daryl), Lisa Clark (Speedy), and Marcie Thaxter (Josh), sisters Wanda Woods and Marguerite Vinson, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.
Family, friends, nursing, and travel were Linda’s joys. During her vacation travels, she discovered Hawaii and fell in love with the islands which will be her final resting place.
There will be a “Celebration of Linda’s Life” at the Ogden Baptist Church 6530 Highway 433 W, Bentonia, MS 39040at 3pm August 28, 2016. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made in Linda’s name to any charity or organization, such as The American Cancer Society or a hospice, involved in the treatment and care of cancer patents. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals at Baptist Medical Center Jackson, who cared Linda during her courageous battle. Also, thanks to Linda’s many friends for their outpouring of love and support.
