Ms. Judith Ann "Judy" Casner Ferrell, age 76, died peacefully under hospice care August 7, 2015, in Ridgeland, Mississippi after suffering a stroke the week prior.
She is survived by her sister, Jeanne Manor, of Benton, MS and 5 of her 6 children, Craig O’Reilly, Jr., of Pickens, MS; Lynne Grimaldi of Estero, FL; Lisa Bridges of Yazoo City, MS; Paula Sartin of Rossville, TN: John O’Reilly of Pickens, MS; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Additionally, she leaves behind many dear friends she considered her extended family, and her sweet companion and pampered cat, Sunshine. She is preceded in death by her parents, J.L. and Dorothy Casner, and her son, David O’Reilly.
Ms. Ferrell was born on May 26, 1939 in Jersey Shore, PA and moved with her family to the Yazoo City area during childhood. She graduated Valedictorian of her class at Benton High School in 1957. She worked as a rural letter carrier for 25 years before retiring from the US Post Office in 2002. For the last several years, she delighted in serving as the librarian for Central Holmes Christian School.
Ms. Ferrell was an avid reader, antique collector, bargain hunter, talented seamstress, and absolutely loved hummingbirds! She also enjoyed sharing her wit and passion for life with family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Midway United Methodist Church in Benton, MS, on August 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Afterwards, immediate family will share a private graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Shreveport, LA.
