John Vernon Johnson, 92, of Vazoo City went to his heavenly home on May 1, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jean Johnson, and son-in-law, William Robert Martin.
"Hot", as he was known, was born on January 11, 1932 in Memphis, TN. He was a pillar in this community and leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service.
Hot dedicated 20 years to the Yazoo City Fire Department and was a reassuring presence as a security guard in multiple locations around town. He served two terms as the Sheriff Deputy under Tom Sadler and two terms as the Northern District Constable. He finished his working career in 2018 as a Process Server for Yazoo County under Jacob Sherriff.
While Hot loved his friends and community, his greatest joy was found in his family. Hot was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and it was evident in how he lived his life. Hot rarely missed a Manchester sporting event and took immense pride in the accomplishments of each child and grandchild. There was never a conversation that he didn't beam with pride while talking about his family. Though Hot is gone from this world, his spirit lives on in the countless lives he has touched and memories he has left behind.
Services were held on May 4, 2024 at St. John's Methodist Church. Rev. Ken Lynch and Rev. Tiki Broome officiated.
He is survived by his three daughters, Suzanne (Jimmy) Wever of Yazoo City, Leigh Ann (Gil) Stuart of Bentonia, Lisa Martin of Bentonia; brother-in-laws, James Thornhill of Yazoo City and Mike Thornhill of Brandon, MS; six grandchildren, Amy Wever, Casey Wever, Kate Powell (Corey), Wes Wever (Kara), Kyle Wever (Jessica), and Bradley Stuart; and 11 great grandchildren, Eli Wever, CJ Compton, Peyton Compton, Lexi Hinson, Bella Ray, Bo Ray, Dax Wever, Adaline Powell, Cooper Wever, Wren Wever, and Cora Wever.
