James Rodgers Jr., 73, passed away on Feb. 16, 2023.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Bethel M.B. Church with Dr. Walter Williams officiating.
Born in Yazoo County, he was the third child born to James Woodrow Rodgers Sr. and Murriel Mae Jackson Rodgers. He received his education from Carter School in Yazoo County and later moved to Montgomery School in Louise, MS. He gave his life to Christ and joined the Bethel M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J.D. Thurman, the late Dr. M.C. Miller and was currently serving as deacon and treasurer under the leadership of Rev. Vernon Webster. He also served on the board of the Christian Fellowship Churches until his health declined.
James spent many of his early years working in agriculture, four years in manufacturing and his final years working for the Humphrey’s County Board of Supervisors in Beat 3. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with family and traveling to the mud derby with friends.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Bernice Giles Rodgers; daughter, Phyllis Inella Rodgers; parents, James and Murriel Mae Rodgers; two sisters, Evelyn Harris and Barbara Riley; and brother, Phillip Rodgers.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Hope Giles (John) Mays, Angel R. Davis, both of Yazoo City, MS; son, Gregg M. (April) Giles of Benton, MS; ten grand-children, Ashley Giles (Thomas) Howard, Marcus T. Adams, Jasmine R. Adams, Nequina R. Adams, Zachary M. Giles, Kennedi RR Giles, Kendra N. Adams, Bradford P. Evans, Brody James Giles and Brooklyn R. Giles; six great grand-children, Austin James Mosley, Autumn R. Howard, Aubrey R. Howard, Dillion James Adams, Londyn N. Owens and Kehlani A.R. Giles; four sisters, Cornelia (Robert) Grant, Mary (Aaron) Giles, Ruth C. Butts and Janice Rodgers, all of Dallas, TX.; two sister-in-laws, Maggie Mae Sims of Sharon, MS and Nina H. Rodgers of Dallas, TX; special cousin, Barbara S. Moore of Yazoo City, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
