Gene Ford Roark, born June 12, 1925 in Owensboro, KY, went to be with The Lord May 28, 2018.
Visitation will be Friday, June 1 beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Her parents were Ellis Carson Ford and Yuleen Brashear Ford of Kentucky and Tennessee. She married Donald B. Roark in 1946 and moved to Yazoo City, MS, in 1954, where she spent most of her adult life and raised her children. She moved to Ridgeland in 2005.
Gene was very much a woman of faith and an active member of First Baptist Church Yazoo City where she served faithfully in numerous capacities, many of which involved children and youth. She sang in the adult choir and participated in WMU Circle, but one of her favorite activities was being the coordinator and hearer of scripture for Bible Memory Association. Two of her favorite scripture passages were Psalm 23 (which she would recite to herself to fall asleep, instead of counting sheep) and Philippians 4:6. She was also employed at Yazoo Tire Shop.
Mrs. Roark is survived by a daughter, Elaine Roark Schmitt (Howard) of Columbia, SC; sons Dale Ellis Roark (Betsy) of Hattiesburg, MS; Thomas Ford Roark (Jo Lea) of Flowood, MS and daughter-in-=law, Belinda Roark of Canton, MS; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Dr. Gene Allen Roark, an infant daughter Joyce Alita Roark and sister Nancy Anderson.
Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Roark, Matthew Roark, Ben Roark, Martin Roark, Geoffrey Yoste, Wes Willis, Andrew Willis, Howard Schmitt and Danny Schmitt.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 328 Grand Avenue, Yazoo City, MS 39194.
