Edwin Lee Martin went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Lee was born on July 16, 1938, in Yazoo County. He received his education in the Yazoo City school system. He graduated from Belhaven in 1962 and received his Masters from Mississippi College in 1967. Many lives were touched in Yazoo County through his coaching of Little League Baseball. Lee spent his adult life in Sharkey County serving as Teacher, Principal, Coach,
and mentor in the school system. Later he joined the Bank of Anguilla and remained until his retirement.
His life was devoted to serving His Lord and community as evidenced by being a Life Time Deacon, volunteer fireman, heading the ambulance services, Civil Defense Director, Rotary Club, and elected to local School Board.
Lee is survived by his wife of 38 years, Juanita Whitlatch Martin, his son Mike Ray and daughter Marcie Ray Montgomery (Billy). “ Pawpaw”s grandchildren are Kala Johnson (Brock), Katie Lee Montgomery, Chad Ray, Mary Catherine Ray, and Clinton Ray. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Johnson and Emmett Ray. His surviving sisters are Susie Crommett (Wayne) and Jo Ann Horne (Greg).
Preceding him in death were his parents W. C. and Susie Lee Martin of Yazoo City, his brother Clark Martin of Ft. Worth, Texas and a son Mark Ray of Atlanta, GA.
A special Thank You to Dr. Qu, Jackson Oncology in Vicksburg, and the doctors and staff at Sharkey Issaquena Hospital for their love and compassionate care to Lee during these past 6 months.
Services will be Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Rolling Fork with visitation starting at 12:30 P.M. until the 2:00 P.M. service. Rev. Britt Williamson and Norman Maranto will officiate with burial in Mound Cemetery. Stricklin-KIng Funeral Home in Yazoo City has been entrusted with the arrangements.
