Edward Earl Davis was born on March 30, 1939, to Annie M. Davis and Henry Priest. The second of four children, he was preceded in death by his parents and his baby brother, Bobby Joe Davis.
Edward passed away on April 30, 2024. Funeral services will be held on May 11 at 11 a.m. New King Solomon M.B. Church with Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
A lifelong member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, Edward accepted Christ at an early age. He graduated from Taylor High in 1958 and initially worked as a delivery runner for Miller and Turner Drug Store. While pursuing barber college, his studies were interrupted when he was drafted into the army in the spring of 1962. Stationed in Germany as an infantryman, Edward was honorably discharged in the summer of 1964, having earned decorations as a sharpshooter and the Expert Infantry Badge.
Returning home, Edward soon began building his life with Clementine Davis after a chance encounter biking home from working at Southland Oil Company, where he was an operations and field technician until his retirement. Beyond his professional life, Edward was a master at checkers, an avid domino player, and enjoyed engaging in spirited conversations with friends. He entertained family and friends with puzzles, riddles, and brain teasers. His hobbies included barbequing, baking, trapping, hunting, fishing, raising rabbits, gardening, making homemade wine, and perfecting recipes and sauces to share with loved ones.
Known for his playful and teasing nature, Edward was also both spiritual and wise. He lived by the biblical principle from 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to show thyself approved unto God," which guided him to build a personal relationship with God and supported his self-taught mastery of numerous hobbies.
Edward leaves a rich legacy cherished by his wife, Clementine Davis; his son, Cornelius (Emma) Washington; his daughters, Jackie and Sharon Davis; bonus children, Randall Pinkston (Patricia) and Lora Allen (Charles); his sister, Mildred “Toy” Smith; his brother, Johnny L. Miller; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
