Dorothy Jean Lancaster
Dorothy Jean Lancaster, 85, of Pearl, MS died Thursday, October 18, 2018.
Funeral services were at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel in Yazoo City.
Born in Yazoo County, she lived in Pearl for the past 7 years with her daughter Cindy. She retired from the US Postal Service after 28 years of dedicated service. She was a faithful believer in God and member of Southside Assembly of God.
Nothing brought more joy to our mother than being with her family and other loved ones. She also enjoyed playing the piano, which she did for many years in church and also while teaching us to sing. Teaching children's church in her earlier years, writing heartfelt poetry, traveling, painting, walking the beach and in the woods and just nature in general were some of the things she really enjoyed and were an important part of who she was.
On a funny note, and one we will always remember with endearment, our mom loved to use numbers or what we called, figuring, and also, always gave directions by saying, "Go North, South, East or West. When we always wanted, and "needed" to hear left or right. We all laugh just thinking about our confusion over this and her determination that she one day would finally get us to just follow her directions.
As a woman of character, she lived her life with integrity, honesty, courage, loyalty and great strength and love.
She is survived by daughters Linda Dykes of Clinton, Cindy Dugas of Pearl, Elaine Stevens of Bentonia; Son Glenn Lancaster of Vicksburg; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grands; Brothers Grady Porch of Raymond and Jack Porch of Hattiesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Lucy Porch, 2 great-great grandchildren, and grandson Ryan Stevens.
