The Yazoo Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its April 16, 2024, meeting at Ricks Memorial Library.
The program was provided by JoAnne Collins. Sue Patterson, Chapter Regent, presided. Ava Hale researched the Patriots who were part of the Boston Tea party. Kelly Olivieri Jones placed the information on the Chapter’s Facebook page.
The members voted Cathryn Cartwright Leal as Yazoo Chapter’s Outstanding Junior for the next year.
The program was on the Legacy of Bernardo de Galvez, a Spaniard General for Spain. He defended the Gulf Coast and Mississippi River keeping the British from entering there during the Revolutionary War. He is considered a vital part of the Colonists winning this war. In the United States, Galveston, TX is named after Galvez. In 2014, he was voted an honorary American Citizen. There are only eight individuals with this honor.
The last meeting of the year will be at Janet Whittington’s home for a salad luncheon.
