A 58-year-old Yazoo City woman died in a house fire early Sunday morning.
Annie Ellis Stinson was found dead in her bedroom after firefighters battled a blaze for over an hour that began sometime before 4 a.m. at her home at 1201 Prentiss Avenue.
Stinson’s husband Robert Spencer was rescued by a 15-year-old neighbor during the fire.
After waking up and seeing the fire, Tristan Brown grabbed his baseball bat and broke out a window on the burning home. Brown pulled Spencer from the home and helped him get a safe distance from the fire.
Spencer suffered from burns and cuts and was taken by ambulance to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
The Yazoo City Fire Department received the call at 3:54 a.m., and the home was already blazing when emergency responders arrived on the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The Yazoo City Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
