Yazoo’s own Willie Morris will be inducted into The MAX Hall of Fame this month.
The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience officially broke ground in downtown Meridian in October of 2015. By shining the spotlight on Mississippi’s statewide contributions in arts and entertainment, The MAX guides visitors to other towns and museums throughout the state, from Tupelo’s Elvis, to Indianola’s B. B. King, to Pascagoula’s Jimmy Buffett, to Jackson’s Eudora Welty, to Ocean Springs’ Walter Anderson, and many more.
The five 2018 inductees into The MAX Hall of Fame are bluesman Howlin’ Wolf, photographer William Eggleston, musician and writer Jimmy Buffett, musician Charley Pride and writer Willie Morris.
The celebrations begin at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 with the artists’ Walk of Fame star unveiling (open to the public), immediately followed by the Hall of Fame Award Ceremony and Reception (ticketed events).
After the reception, The MAX will host a free concert by The Vamps, open to the public on the Citizen’s National Bank courtyard.
Emcee for the event will Bert Carruth, son of the late Paul Ott Carruth, who will also be honored during the ceremony.
Seating is limited, and tickets are available for $50 each.
