A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Yazoo City man involved in last week’s shooting.
Upon his arrest, Walter Anfield will be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The shooting occurred last Friday on Lucel Street after an altercation between Cedric Ross and Anfield. Both men were airlifted to a Jackson hospital shortly after shots were fired during their confrontation.
“The victim (Ross) was shot by Anfield,” said Police Chief Ronald Sampson. “He is still in serious condition in the hospital receiving treatment.”
Sampson said Anfield was released from the hospital after recovering from a gunshot wound in his left upper thigh.
“Ross was able to identify Anfield as the person who shot him,” Sampson said. “A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and we will bring him in.”
Anfield was previously arrested in September for allegedly intentionally striking a man with his vehicle. Anfield was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle in that case.
The incident occurred about 7:20 p.m. Sept. 9. on Martin Luther King Drive. Witnesses told police that the victim was hit by an SUV driven by Anfield, and that Anfield later exited the vehicle and assaulted the victim before running over him a second time.
