Ward 4 Alderman Aubry Brent said rumors that Walmart isn’t coming to Yazoo City are not true.
“There have been some rumors in the community about this, and I’d like to put those rumors to rest,” Brent said. “Walmart is coming.”
Brent said the effort to close on the property were delayed by the death of Dr. V.K. Chawla, who owned the property. He said the probate process should take about 90 days, and then Walmart can move forward with acquiring the property.
“We’ve had some setbacks, but we are still getting a Walmart,” Brent said.
City engineer Wayne Morrison agreed.
“They are still on target to begin construction by November 15,” Morrison said.
Morrison said that work has resumed on the Willie Morris Parkway, but heavy rainfall has been an obstacle.
“They’ve been hauling dirt to build across the box bridge at Willis Creek,” Morrison said. “They worked all day Saturday.”
