Members of the Ray Davis VFW Post 4302 are giving the building a new look thanks to much needed donations.
Post Commander, retired Col. Hugh Long, is leading local efforts to build membership in both the post and the auxiliary, as well as reviving the building on Highway 49 toward Eden for future use.
"The building was constructed in 1973 and nothing has been done to it," Long said.
Long has quite a to-do list to bring the VFW Post back to life, but he has made some headway over the past few weeks.
The building now stands tall with a fresh coat of paint on the exterior walls and roof, and now has at least one newly installed HVAC unit.
The rest of Long's wish list includes replacing one more HVAC unit, buying a new stove and refrigerator, make repairs to the bathrooms and kitchen, and install a new drop ceiling with lights and vents for the HVAC ductwork.
Long said that members are still holding meetings at the facility while these renovations are going on.
"We meet the second Saturday of every month," he said. "We start with coffee and donuts at 9 a.m., and then the members of the post and the auxiliary meet at 9:30 a.m."
Long said that they are actively seeking new members to join the post and the auxiliary, and that application forms are available for anyone who is interested. He added that he and other members have considered hosting BINGO nights and other events at the VFW Post once renovations are completed.
"We respectfully request any donations to assist us in this renovation," Long said. "Please send donations to VFW Post 4302, P.O. Box 562, Yazoo City, MS, 39194."
