Thirteen candidates have applied for the Yazoo County School District superintendent position, which will become available this summer following the retirement of Becky Fisher.
The county school district contracted with the Mississippi School Boards Association to assist in the search for the district’s new superintendent.
Dr. Mike Waldrop, MSBA executive director, and Dr. Tommye Henderson, superintendent search consultant, met with the county school board Tuesday to provide a detailed report of the 13 applicants.
“The board members received the report and all application materials,” according to a release. “Board members will use the report and materials to determine the next course of action.”
Interviews are scheduled to take place later this month.
Among the applicants are one superintendent, two assistant superintendents, four directors, three principals, one instructional coach, one teacher and one with alternative qualifications.
“Nine of the applicants have a doctorate degree,” a release said. “Eight of the applicants are male and five are female. Eleven applicants are from Mississippi, one is from Georgia and one is from Tennessee.”
The new superintendent is expected to begin work on July 1, 2018.
