Richard Johnson has been charged with the murder of a 33-year-old Yazoo City woman.
Johnson, 25, was charged Thursday for the death of Keondra Williams, who was found dead in her car in the parking lot of Oakhaven Apartments.
Johnson was arrested on the same morning Williams was found murdered, but he wasn’t charged with her murder until Thursday.
On Thursday morning Sheriff Jake Sheriff expressed frustration that some of the people who witnessed the crime were reluctant to cooperate with investigators. He said some people who had valuable information were either afraid for their safety or did not wish to testify in court.
“What kind of person would let having to testify in court prevent them from telling what they saw in a case where someone was killed?” Sheriff asked. “I guarantee if it was one of their family members killed, they would be wanting the witnesses to cooperate.”
Williams, a mother of three, was apparently visiting a friend when she was killed.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said paramedics with Pafford Ambulance Service pronounced Williams dead on the scene.
Williams was shot twice.
