A local organization focused on improving the talents of Yazoo City's youth will be hosting a Showcase of Praise today at Tulane Baptist Church, beginning at 4 p.m.
The Songbird Academy, a choral program sponsored by Fannie's Nest Incorporated, is currently working with 18 students from Yazoo City High School and Thomas Christian Academy, in the areas of music theory, vocal training, and fundamentals. The organization also brought in experts from the music industry to help counsel and train students for potential careers in the music business.
The Showcase of Praise will feature a variety of music from years gone by, paying homage to the originators of gospel music, as well as modern day gospel songs.
All 18 students involved in the Songbird Academy will perform in the Showcase, along with a variety of guest soloists and musicians from the Yazoo Community.
The event is free for all who attend, but a tax-deductible love offering will be collected at the end of the performance.
Tickets for VIP preferential seating and the reception are available for $5 and are being sold by the Songbird Academy participants.
