A special election for the position of House of Representatives District 54 will be today with eight local precincts heading to the polls.
Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said the eight precincts include Holly Bluff, Fugates, Valley, Satartia, Little Yazoo (formally Robinette), Center Ridge, East Bentonia and Washington St. Fire Station.
But due to renovations to the Washington Street fire station, those precinct voters will be temporarily moved to the annex of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, located around the corner at 414 E. Jefferson St.
“Renovations to the fire department have not been completed, so we are holding this election at an alternative location for those precinct voters until further notice,” Coleman said.
Three candidates are vying for the district post, including Joe Bonelli, Randy Easterling and Kevin Ford.
With only eight precincts in the rolls for this particular special election, Coleman said he doesn’t expect a very large voter turnout.
“We only have eight precincts this time, so I don’t think the turnout will be very large,” Coleman said. “We will have minimum turnout for this election since a lot of precincts are not involved.”
