The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department is sponsoring its first Angel Tree project for the Christmas season.
“A lot of our deputies have to respond to calls in poverty-stricken homes,” said Dustin Wadford, with the Sheriff’s Department. “Seeing how little many of these children have inspired the department to give back this season. We wanted to start a tradition in Yazoo this year.”
Wadford said local agencies and schools have sponsored 65 children up to ten years old. The department is asking the community to sponsor the remaining 39 children.
A tree will be at the sheriff’s department with angels for those wishing to donate.
“Each angel will have three wishes of a child,” Wadford said.
Donations may be dropped off at the department’s temporary location at the former county jail, next to the police department. Donations can also be dropped off at the Bentonia Police Department or the Yazoo City Police Department.
“Please make sure your angel’s number is on the gifts,” Wadford said. “We would love to have all gifts by Dec. 12.”
Financial donations can also be given to Trish Aldridge or Jackie Hudson by calling 746-5611.
