A domestic dispute quickly escalated into a samurai sword-wielding attack that ended with gunfire in rural Yazoo County last weekend.
Edison Strickland, 26, was charged with felony malicious mischief and three counts of attempting to commit a crime.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said the incident began as a domestic dispute between Strickland and a female visitor at a home on Hargett Hill Road.
“The female called for some people to come and get her,” Gann said. “When those people arrived to get her, Strickland attacked them with a samurai sword. He broke the sword while chopping on the car they arrived in.”
Gann said it was at that point Strickland returned inside the home to retrieve a baseball bat. The people inside the vehicle then fled to the nearby woods, and the female visitor ran to the house next door.
“She banged on the door, begging for help,” Gann said. “The homeowner let her in, but Strickland had made his way to the back door and charged the homeowner. The homeowner shot twice at Strickland but only struck once in his lower thigh area.”
Gann said the shooting was ruled as self-defense, and no charges were filed. Other than the suspect’s injuries, there were a few other minor injuries reported but none required medical attention.
Strickland remained in jail as of press time.
