The Yazoo City Housing Authority Director Betty Reed retired on June 30 after 33 years of service.
“The Housing Authority and its affiliate Gateway Community Development Corporation will still be a viable community service agency that will be providing and developing housing in Yazoo City,” Reed said. “The Housing Authority will be the managing company.”
Reed added that the Housing Authority has provided over 50 years of service to the Yazoo community, and that service will continue.
Reed said she will now be involved with the Gateway Community Development Cooperation, which she said follows with its motto, “helping communities navigate change.”
“This is home to me,” she said. “I want to see the community continue to grow. Housing has grown to be a passion of mine because of the need. I don’t think people understand the housing need in the city. If I could create some affordable and market rate housing through the non-profit (Gateway), it would be one of greatest assets to the city itself.”
