Rash of burglaries hit Benton area

By JAMIE PATTERSON,

A rash of burglaries has been reported in the Benton area, and investigators are on the lookout for a group of juveniles who were caught on surveillance footage.

Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said burglaries were reported at Berry’s, the former Bank of Yazoo City location and Benton Farm Supply.

“Based on surveillance, we know it is a group of juveniles,” Gann said.

Around 3:30 a.m. last Wednesday, Berry’s was burglarized with cigars and an empty cash register reported stolen.

Five days later on Monday around 3 a.m., the former BYC location was also burglarized.

“Nothing was taken from the bank, but it was ransacked,” Gann said.

Another burglary at Benton Farm Supply earlier was also connected to the same group of juveniles.

“Tools and a hatchet were taken from Benton Farm Supply,” Gann said. “That same hatchet was used to break the window at the bank.”

Gann is asking for any information to be reported to Crimestoppers at 746-TIPS.
