One Yazoo County parent said the high school’s baseball and softball program is being overlooked when it comes to its sound system.
Rusty Nash appeared before the Yazoo County School District board with photographs of what he said is an “outdated” system.
School officials said they are willing to fix the problem, but they simply have to go through the right channels.
“I would like to simply ask what we can do to get a new PA system for our baseball field; not only there but also for the softball field,” Nash asked. “How many years are we going to use this old, outdated PA system for the baseball team?”
Nash provided photographs to the school trustees of what the baseball and softball program currently work with on their fields. The photographs show a computer system with speaker on top of milk crates.
Nash said it is embarrassing when the system cannot be used due to malfunctions during games.
“It is a crying shame when our outdated system goes out, and they bring out a bull horn for you to announce on,” Nash said. “It makes us look like a fool. But, hey, if that’s what it takes to announce for these kids, I will gladly look like a fool for our kids.”
Nash said the high school’s football field and basketball court both have good sound systems. He said it is only fair that the baseball and softball field have the same.
“Don’t tell me the money is not there,” Nash continued. “I have heard this same line of garbage for six years. What are we going to do for our players?”
Superintendent Beck Fisher said Nash should first meet with the high school principal and athletic director.
“Go through (them) first so that we can go through the channels and get through this,” she said. “Make a request so we can see what we can do.”

• The board accepted a bid with Dakota Oil LLC for three-year oil, gas and mineral lease on T12N-R2E parcel.
• Bill McGraw, with Southgroup Insurance, gave a presentation on his desire to act as the district’s Insurance Agent of Record. The board took no action.
• Approved for the Yazoo County High School Beta Club students to attend the National Conference Competition in New Orleans on June 26-30.
• Accepted a $574 donation for Linwood Elementary School from Herrin Gear Infiniti.
• Approved a request for instructor Blaine Overby to participate in a sabbatical program with Delta State University.
• Chase Caldwell, technology coordinator, discussed infrastructure upgrades within the district.
