A Yazoo City police officer accused of using unnecessary force resigned this week.
Chief Ron Sampson said the resignation comes amidst an ongoing investigation surrounding accusations that officers used unnecessary force during response call last month.
“The investigation is still open pending an interview with the victim,” Sampson said. “The victim is unavailable for questioning at this time, but he is willing to cooperate with us.”
Sampson said three officers were accused of improperly handling the incident that has sparked much attention within the community.
“Through our investigation, we discovered that two of the officers did not act inappropriately,” Sampson said. “Thus, those two officers were not punished. However, there were accusations that the third officer did use unnecessary force.”
As the investigation continues, Sampson said that third officer turned in his resignation.
