A habitual offender is back behind bars after he allegedly attempted to rob a female victim last month.
Robert Banks was charged with attempted armed robbery in connection with a possible purse snatching on Sept. 25.
Police Chief Ron Sampson, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said Banks allegedly tried to steal a purse from inside a female’s vehicle.
“The victim said Banks reached over her to grab her purse while she was inside her vehicle,” Sampson said.
Sampson said his investigators noticed Banks matched the victim’s description while he was in court on previous other charges.
“While in court, an officer noticed Banks matched the description and had on the same clothing from the victim’s statement,” Sampson said. “Banks was interviewed, and he claims he didn’t try to grab the purse. But he did admit he was there.”
Banks, who has a lengthy criminal history, remained behind bars as of press time.
