If you wanted to score some construction equipment, it might not be a good idea to steal it from the sheriff’s department.
One man learned that lesson the hard way when he was caught red-handed stealing two pieces of equipment from the Yazoo County Sheriff’s office last Wednesday.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said that Danny Boddy was charged with attempt of petit larceny after Chief Investigator Terry Gann discovered him upon returning to his office from Justice Court.
“He came in wandering around in the office area with a tube of caulk and a circular saw in his hand,” Gann said. “When he saw me, he turned around the corner where he placed the saw on the floor. I knew something wasn’t right so I watched him head towards the elevator.”
When questioned, Boddy said he was doing maintenance work on the second floor of the office.
“He ended up taking me to the first floor where no work was being done except for a construction crew working on windows,” Gann said. “I asked the workers if he worked for them, and they didn’t know who he was.”
At that point, Gann took Boddy into custody for attempted petit larceny.
Boddy was taken to the county jail, where he was released on bond.
