A warrant for a suspect’s arrest led to additional charges after he resisted arrest from a city police officer at Walmart.
Patrick Burns, 28, was charged with resisting arrest by fighting with an officer, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Burns is a habitual offender who had several indictments against him. His county indictments included felony gun possession.
However, the Yazoo City Police Department also charged Burns with resisting arrest by fighting with an officer after a scuffle inside Walmart, which was captured on store surveillance.
“Burns was wanted for a gun possession indictment when a Yazoo police officer identified him in the store,” Gann said. “The officer attempted to take him into custody.”
As of press time, Burns remained in jail.
