A Yazoo County man remains behind bars after he allegedly attacked his friend, believing to have killed him.
James Ellett, 58, was charged with aggravated assault last Tuesday.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Ellett went to a neighbor’s house to report a fabricated attack.
“He did have blood on him, and he told the neighbors that he and his friend had been attacked by four individuals,” Gann said. “He said his friend was at his house, and he could possibly be dead.”
When deputies arrived at the scene, they uncovered a twist in the investigation.
“The friend was not dead,” Gann said. “He was badly beaten but was responsive. He told us that it was Ellett who beat him.”
Gann said the victim remains at a Jackson hospital with face and neck injuries.
Ellett remained in jail as of press time.
