A man who attempted to smuggle contraband inside the federal prison through a trustee was arrested last week.
Ted Evans, 54, was charged with smuggling contraband into a federal facility.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said investigators received a tip that Evans was going to deliver the contraband to a prison trustee. Investigators observed Evans as he pulled into the prison parking lot at the medium security facility.
“Once he pulled into the parking lot, he sat there for a few minutes,” Gann said. “As he attempted to leave, we pulled him over. He had a large amount of tobacco and alcohol inside the vehicle.”
Gann said Gann admitted that he was supposed to meet a prison trustee to hand over the contraband.
“Prison employees were watching him on their own cameras when he was in the parking lot,” Gann added. “The facility was under shut-down, which does not allow anyone to enter or leave the building. Once he released whoever he was supposed to meet wasn’t coming, he attempted to leave.”
