A Yazoo County man remains behind bars after he led deputies in a chase from Bentonia into the Scotland community.
Demanuel Carter, 27, was charged with felony fleeing, reckless driving and failure to yield.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said a Bentonia officer first tried to pull Carter over for reckless driving, leading into a chase.
“Deputies assisted with the pursuit and soon found the car abandoned in a field on Berryville Road, near Scotland,” Gann said. “We immediately set up a perimeter when shortly afterward the suspect’s brother tried to pick him up and leave the area.”
After deputies spotted Carter sneaking into his brother’s car, they immediately apprehended him.
“There was also a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle,” Gann said. “We also found empty plastic bags thrown across the field in the area where Carter ran to get into his brother’s car. We can only assume he was also transporting drugs.”
