A Yazoo City man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting a man multiple times Monday night.
Stanley Fisher was charged with murder after a deadly shooting Monday around 7:30 p.m.
Clarence Shehy, 54, of Benton, was pronounced dead on the scene at Fisher’s East Jefferson Street residence.
"On arrival of police officers and a deputy, (the victim) was found deceased in the back yard of a residence," Shivers said. "Paramedics with Pafford EMS arrived, and he was pronounced dead on the scene."
Shivers said Shehy died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his body has been taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
Police Chief Ron Sampson said the incident remains under investigation with the possibility of charges being reduced if they discover the Castle Doctrine applies in this case.
Sampson said a dispute had been brewing between Shehy and Fisher for the past several months, leading up to this week’s shooting.
"Shehy went to Fisher's home," Sampson said. "Fisher said that he heard some type of disturbance in his back yard. He looked out, saw someone and, at that moment, he fired."
Sampson said they continue to gather more information from witnesses, and there is a possibility that the charge could be reduced if it was determined that Fisher was protecting his home and property.
"Because it happened on Fisher’s property, and we don't know whether he invited Shehy to the property, we will continue to speak to the other witnesses," Sampson said. "But Shehy was on Fisher's property, and it may fall under the Castle Doctrine, especially due to the fact that they had been having problems over the last few months."
