Only about two percent of Yazoo County’s registered voters came to the polls last Tuesday in the congressional Republican primary runoff.
Of 19,376 registered voters, only 360 ballots, or 1.86 percent, were cast this week.
Brian Flowers, a military veteran who works at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, won the congressional Republican primary runoff. He will face Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson in November.
Flowers beat out Thomas Carey, a retired real estate agent who ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate in 2014.
Within Yazoo County, Flowers took 68.25 percent, or 245, of the total vote. Carey followed with 31.48 percent, or a total of 113 votes.
