Two Yazoo County corrections officers get to experience life on the other side of the bars.
Christine Cook and Antonio Mays, both employees of the Yazoo County Correctional Facility, were arrested after an investigation conducted by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department and jail staff.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said the investigation revealed that Cook and Mays were manipulating surveillance cameras in an attempt to hide their actions. Sheriff said they unlocked doors to allow inmates to go onto the yard to retrieve contraband that had been thrown over the fence.
Cook was arrested first, and Mays was charged the following week. Mays faces an additional smuggling charge. Investigators say he brought a bag to an inmate containing contraband.
Items both officers are charged with allowing into the jail include methamphetamine, amphetamines, Spice, three knives, cellular phones and tobacco.
In other news, deputies arrested Eddie T. Smith last Friday morning at Shady Lane for possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and DUI.
