Deputies continue to investigate a shooting over the weekend at a local apartment complex that appears to be in self defense.
Sheriff Jacob Sheriff said the case is an active ongoing investigation with potential charges pending.
“It appears this was a self defense case,” Sheriff said. “But we are still actively investigating the shooting.”
Sheriff said the shooting occurred at Oak Haven Apartments late Saturday evening at the home of Lula Effingger, who called law enforcement in reference to Doris Hughes.
“Deputies responded to two previous calls at that location to remove Hughes from Effingger’s residence,” Sheriff said. “The third time deputies responded, it was in reference to a shooting.”
Sheriff said it appears as if Effingger shot Hughes in self defense.
“Hughes was shot in the right hip area and taken by ambulance to the University Medical Center,” Sheriff said. “Hughes has pending charges of trespassing and simple assault. But this is still an active, ongoing investigation.”
