Yazoo City residents are urged to have their garbage out on time for collection days because – believe it or not – it will be picked up on schedule.
Many Yazooans had lost faith in the city’s ability to pick up garbage in a reasonable timeframe, but collection efforts are now reportedly back on schedule now that private contractor Waste Pro has been given the job.
Public Works Director Walter Williams said collection should be returning to normal.
“I want to think the county and Public Service for helping us pick up garbage prior to Waste Pro,” Williams said. “We are currently on schedule with pickup since last Thursday. We’re asking our citizens to have their garbage out on their scheduled pickup days.”
“I want to thank our citizens for bearing with us,” said Mayor Diane Delaware. “I believe we have corrected the problem, and it will return to what citizens normally expect.”
Ward 3 Alderman Rev. Gregory Robertson also thanked residents for their patience.
“Hopefully everything will go smoothly from here on out,” he said.
Ward 1 Alderman Ron Johnson thanked Cobie Collins, president of the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors, and all county officials and workers for being willing to step in during the city’s time of need.
Williams said that the city’s collection workers are currently working with Waste Pro during the emergency period of the city’s contract with the company. He said that working equipment has made all the difference.
