Fire Chief Roy Wilson announced his retirement this week after close to three decades of service to the community.
Wilson’s official last day will be April 30.
“I have really enjoyed all my years of working with the Yazoo City Fire Department,” he said. “I will certainly miss everyone I worked with over the years, but I am looking forward to retirement.”
Wilson joined the fire department 26 years ago with humble beginnings.
“I started at the bottom of the totem pole and worked my way up,” he said, with a laugh.
Wilson said he looks forward to retirement at the end of this month. But he admits he will find ways to stay busy.
“You will still see me around,” he said. “I will probably be cutting a little grass.”
