The warden of the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility resigned from his post last week.
Warden Gary Edwards’ last day as leader of the local correctional facility was last Friday. Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff said Edwards resigned to pursue other job opportunities.
Sheriff said no one has been hired in the warden position, as of press time.
“The Mississippi Department of Corrections has a few people who have retired who they are interested in,” Sheriff said. “I will be meeting with MDOC to discuss those names. And if I have anyone in mind, I may hire them. But MDOC has to approve that hire.”
Ceasar Felton has been appointed to temporarily lead the correctional facility until a permanent hire is selected.
Edwards was named interim warden in January of 2016. He served as active warden since May of 2016.
