Nightclubs within the county will be allowed to remain open one more hour on New Year’s Eve.
The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors approved a one-hour extension for this year only during its open meeting Monday morning.
The current county ordinance, which was established in 1998, requires that all nightclubs within Yazoo County close at midnight. That ordinance was created after a number of altercations led to murders at the late-night establishments.
However, after one business owner requested an exception this week, county leaders agreed to allow nightclubs to remain open until 1 a.m.
“I am asking for an exemption for New Year’s Eve,” said Tra Ferrell, owner of Little Yazoo Sports Bar and Grill. “We will be celebrating until midnight, but I would like to stay open until 1 a.m.”
“If we do it for one, we will have to do it for all of them,” said Supervisor Willie Wright. “But I don’t have a problem with it.”
