City leaders selected their new election commissioners in preparation for the special election to be held next month for the board’s vacant alderman post.
The special election will determine the future for the seat of Ward 4, which was left vacant after the death of Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. last month.
The special election will be held on Nov. 18, 2019 with the qualifying deadline being Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019 at 5 p.m.
A runoff election, if necessary, will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, 2019.
Prior to Monday’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, the city had not appointed any election commissioners. However, those appointments were made this week, which also included special training to be held next week.
The newly appointed election commissioners include Robert Haymer, Willie Thomas, Juanita Lear and Mamie Williams.
