Investigators still have no leads in a recent rash of burglaries in the Benton area, but they are planning to meet with other agencies to see if there is a connection with other thefts.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said he will be meeting with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department and other surrounding counties as part of his investigation.
“The surrounding areas have reported similar burglaries,” Gann said. “We are going to compare notes and see if this could possibly be the same group of suspects.”
Unfortunately, Gann said he has received no tips in the local burglaries and is urging the public to call in with any information.
Burglaries were reported last month at Berry’s, the former Bank of Yazoo City location in Benton and Benton Farm Supply.
“Based on surveillance, we know it is a group of juveniles,” Gann said.
Around 3:30 a.m. on April 17, Berry’s was burglarized with cigars and an empty cash register reported stolen.
Five days later on Monday around 3 a.m., the former BYC location was also burglarized.
“Nothing was taken from the bank, but it was ransacked,” Gann said.
Another burglary at Benton Farm Supply earlier was also connected to the same group of juveniles.
“Tools and a hatchet were taken from Benton Farm Supply,” Gann said. “That same hatchet was used to break the window at the bank.”
Gann said is asking for any information to be reported to Crimestoppers at 746-TIPS.
