The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department is seeking two suspects who robbed the Bank of Yazoo City’s Benton Branch Friday.
An armed man entered the bank a little after noon demanding money. The robber took an undisclosed amount of money from the bank and unsuccessfully attempted to steal a customer’s wallet on the way out the door.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said the Ford F150 truck used in the robbery was stolen from the city barn in Goodman, and the tag had been switched from a truck that was being repaired at a local repair shop in Yazoo City.
“Apparently they stole the tag from a truck that was at the local business,” Sheriff said. “No one realized it until after the robbery, so we’re not sure exactly when the tag was switched.”
The stolen truck was later found abandoned in a cemetery located on Redmond Road.
Sheriff described the individual who entered the bank and the driver of the stolen truck as black males. The robber wore a mask and had on a hood so witnesses were unable to provide a detailed description.
Sheriff said that surveillance video and eyewitness accounts have given investigators some leads, but he encourages anyone with any information that might be useful to call the Sheriff’s Department at 746-5611.
