A Yazoo City man who has been wanted by police in Kentucky since October 2016 was arrested here Friday at Shady Lane Apartments.
Orlando Wright is the suspect in two armed robberies in Lexington, Kentucky. The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department also charged Wright with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after he was found with numerous small bags of marijuana and a large amount of cash.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said that deputies received a tip that Wright was in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
“We responded in an unmarked car, and with the assistance of Yazoo City police, we were able to take him into custody,” Sheriff said.
Sheriff said that Wright was also carrying a police scanner with him, which probably helped him evade law enforcement officers for as long as he did.
Wright is charged with robbing an Advance America store and a Game Stop on October 5 in Lexington, Ky.
Lexington investigators say Wright visited the Advance America business in the morning and returned around 1 p.m. with a gun and took money from the register.
An hour and a half later the Game Stop was robbed, and Wright is also the suspect in that case.
Like the other robbery, the suspect visited the store earlier before returning with a gun. Investigators say Wright claimed he was interested in purchasing two video game systems. When the merchandise was brought to the counter, the suspect produced a gun and took the money out of the register and the merchandise.
Wright is currently being held in the Yazoo County Correctional Facility.
