Yazoo County landed a $150,000 grant in 2018 for repairs to the storm-damaged roof at the AMCO manufacturing building in the industrial park.
Those repairs still haven’t been made, and the county hasn’t been able to apply for additional Small Municipalities and Limited Population Counties grants because this grant is still pending.
The Yazoo County Port Commission recently rejected a second set of bids for the work.
During the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors meeting last week Chancery Clerk Quint Carver said the goal is now to take separate bids to fix the roof and another bid for other associated work.
“They can fix the roof to get these people dry, and then work on the rest at a later date,” Carver said.
“I thought that was what they were doing,” said Cobie Collins, board president.
“The bad thing is that this is putting us out of the running for grants until this work gets done,” said District 1 Supervisor Lee Moore.
The new bids will be received in March. The grant money will be used with insurance money to fund the project.
The first two attempts to bid the project out came in over budget.
