The planned striping of River Road in Yazoo City has been a source of confusion for several months.
And although the city council approved a company to begin the project, Ward 1 Alderman Ron Johnson said he won’t be satisfied until he sees the work begin.
“Talk is cheap,” Johnson said. “You can put it on paper. But I won’t be satisfied until I see the work being done.”
Johnson has brought the discussion of striping River Road before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for several months. And although it has been on the agenda several times, Johnson said the project was never carried through, adding it was all “game playing.”
“This was originally done at one time but for some reason there was confusion in the mayor’s office and the city clerk’s office,” he said, during Monday’s meeting. “They were throwing (City Clerk Mario Edwards) under the bus, and they wanted me to get mad at Mario. I don’t know what happened, but here it is again.”
But the city council did vote this week to give the job to L & L Company at a cost of $8,636.
Johnson said he is hopeful the project will begin soon, but he remains uneasy,
“It’s been long enough,” he added.
