A fugitive who is believed to be an accomplice in a murder was caught in Yazoo City last weekend after eluding authorities for seven months.
Bobby McGee was apprehended by the Yazoo City Police Department and the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department outside a home, adjacent to a car wash, on Barnwell Street early Saturday evening.
Police Chief Jay Winstead said an anonymous tip of McGee's whereabouts and his vehicle description came to the police department.
"Sgt. Artis Harris and officer Patrick Jaco located the suspect inside his vehicle outside a home on Barnwell," Winstead said. "With this being a county case, we notified Chief Investigator Terry Gann with the sheriff's department. This is just another example of a good working relationship with our sister agency, the sheriff's department.”
Gann said McGee has been taken to the Vicksburg Police Department, where he will be charged in connection with a murder case.
“After Vicksburg handles their cases, McGee will return to us where he will be charged with our cases,” Gann said.
McGee has been on the run since last May. McGee’s sister, Summer McGee, was charged with first-degree murder by the Vicksburg Police Department. She allegedly shot 37-year-old Moses Luckett in the chest in an apartment home on Alcorn Drive in Vicksburg. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Luckett still alive with a gunshot wound. He would later die from his injury.
Gann said that Summer McGee and her brother Bobby McGee returned to Yazoo County after the murder. Sheriff Jacob Sheriff pulled their vehicle over near Eagle Bend Road on Highway 3. After placing Summer McGee under arrest, Bobby McGee fled into nearby woods.
After fleeing the scene, Bobby McGee also allegedly burglarized a vehicle in the Tinsley area, stealing a gun from inside it. It is alleged that he also stole a Denbury truck, which was later found near Center Ridge Road near a vacant house.
“He was also wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting prior to the Vicksburg murder,” Gann said.
In Yazoo County, McGee will be charged with drive-by shooting, automobile burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, grand larceny and resisting arrest.
