Those familiar sights, smells and sounds of the Yazoo County Fair return this week with the same popularity that has attracted visitors for close to nine decades.
The Yazoo County Fair will be open until next Saturday at the local fairgrounds. Since 1928, the attraction has grown into a town-favorite with attendance steadily growing over the years.
“We are bigger and better this year,” said Martin McGraw, with the Yazoo County Fair Association. “We have a big new mixture of rides this year with many favorites returning and about three or four new rides.”
McGraw said popular rides such as the Supershot and Wipe-Out are back. And Miller Spectacular Shows will once again be behind the fair.
“We have more rides this year than we ever had before,” he added.
McGraw said he has noticed that attendance has continually increased with the Yazoo County Fair.
“Last year, we broke 20,000 in attendance for the first time,” McGraw said. “I have noticed that we are also getting more and more visitors from the metro area as well.”
McGraw said the Yazoo County Fair is such a bargain with its ticket prices, family atmosphere and safety that more and more visitors are traveling to see it.
“We are big on value, family atmosphere and safety,” he said. “Those are our big things.”
This year, children 30 inches and under are admitted free, and senior citizens 60 years old or older can get in for only $1.
The Mississippi State Extension will also be presenting a variety of booths and exhibits.
“The Extension Service is also such a big help with what they do with the arts and crafts and other exhibits,” McGraw said.
Admission prices for Monday-Thursday are $10; Friday-Saturday, $12; and Saturday and Sunday Matinee, $8.
General admission includes all rides and free parking.
The fair will be open Monday-Thursday from 6-10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 6-11 p.m.; Saturday Matinee, 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and Sunday Matinee, 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
